Broomfield Transportation Safety Action Plan

Project Summary

In September 2025, Broomfield City Council adopted the Broomfield Transportation Safety Action Plan (BTSAP) with the vision that, “No one is seriously injured or killed while using the transportation network in Broomfield.” This is Broomfield’s first policy statement that prioritizes transportation safety.

Over an 18 month planning process, the City and County of Broomfield developed the BTSAP to identify strategic safety improvements on Broomfield’s multimodal transportation network. The plan combines an in-depth analysis of traffic safety data with community feedback. It consists of action steps and recommendations that aim to reduce crashes and serious injuries when traveling in Broomfield.

The BTSAP has six goals:

  • Severe outcome crash reduction
  • Efficient and safe emergency response
  • Promote responsible travel behavior
  • Integrate technology and data
  • Incorporate safety into projects and programs
  • Foster collaboration and communication

Public Engagement Summary

Public engagement was critical in the creation of the BTSAP. Community members shared their safety concerns and ideas for improvements, submitting 240 surveys, dropping over 750 pins on an online map, participating in three open house events, attending stakeholder meetings and more.

Community engagement for the BTSAP took place in two phases:

  • Phase 1: In summer and fall 2024, community members shared their transportation safety concerns in Broomfield and ideas for improvement at pop-up events, stakeholder meetings, an open house and on Broomfield Voice via an online map and public survey.
  • Phase 2: In Spring 2025, community members and stakeholder groups provided feedback on draft recommendations to improve safety throughout Broomfield’s transportation network. A Public Open House was hosted on Monday, April 21 at the Broomfield Community Center and Virtual Open House was available online on Broomfield Voice from April 27 to May 7.
