Please take this brief survey to help us understand how we can make Broomfield better for our citizens and our businesses. This survey is an important part of creating Advance Broomfield, an economic vitality strategy for the City and County of Broomfield. Your survey responses will assist in identifying initiatives to guide the economic vitality and quality of life improvements over the next five+ years.
The City and County of Broomfield relies on a healthy economy to create quality jobs, provide goods and services and generate tax revenue to deliver the excellent services that our residents expect. Our continued prosperity as a community relies on sound planning for the future – how Broomfield best capitalizes on future economic trends, maximizes opportunities for our residents and balances growth with our desired quality of life. Objectives of the Economic Vitality Strategic Plan include:
- Create a forward-thinking economic vitality strategy for Broomfield that encompasses existing conditions and competitive advantages, considers Broomfield’s unique position in the Denver-Boulder region and anticipates future market shifts in demographics and lifestyles.
- Refresh the mission, services and structure of the City’s economic development division.
- Engage city staff, business and civic leaders and other community stakeholders in a participatory process to develop the economic vitality strategic plan.
- Develop recommendations to guide economic vitality in Broomfield and enhance its value proposition for all community stakeholders.

Start thinking about a way to connect Arista (east side of Pedestrian Bridge) with the new Civic Center Development
Would be nice to have a family-friendly bike path between the two population/entertainment centers in Broomfield. Choose a suitable pathway, safe pedestrian crossings with good directional signage. This would encourage people to park in the Arista Park n Ride and ride or walk the one mile between Arista and Civic Center. Give it an iconic name like "The Broomfield Magic Mile" ??

Make Development Pay For Itself
For too long Broomfield has been trapped in the growth ponzi scheme (https://www.strongtowns.org/the-growth-ponzi-scheme), and thrown so much money at ideas to bring in more revenue. It would be wiser and more prudent for the City / County to adopt a StrongTowns approach (https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2019/6/14/traditional-development) where economic growth is incremental and not financed by out-of-state bankers with no interest in the community, but rather growth is led by the community itself in line with its values. Additionally development should always be evaluated to determine if it will generate enough tax revenue to pay for its ongoing maintenance (streets, sidewalks, sewers, policing) because while it's nice when the real estate developers write checks for that, they soon leave and it becomes a liability for the City / County to maintain it. There is tremendous opportunity for infill projects that involve building where there is already infrastructure such as roads and pipes rather than building at the far-out edges of Broomfield such as IKEA / McWhinney Baseline. Parking lots sit empty all over town and can be redeveloped into a highest and best use rather than continuing to bulldoze Broomfield's open space. Also right now Broomfield is chasing technology companies, which is great, but there is significant opportunity to get back to our roots (no pun intended) with agricultural economic development. Orchards, farms, agri-tourism, are not only practical to feed people but also represent a better use of land.

The internet made Flatirons Mall obsolete. COVID-19 will change how we work, learn and play. Broomfield needs to build towards the future.
