Project Summary

Broomfield Public Health and Environment’s (BPHE) retail food program staff wanted to hear from YOU, the retail food operators and workers in Broomfield! You play an integral role in protecting the health of the public and BPHE greatly values your thoughts and opinions.

Project Goals

The goal of this online forum was to collect your feedback so BPHE can provide better resources and services to your business. BPHE’s retail food program staff want to support you and help local retail food businesses succeed.

Public Engagement Summary

This forum was open from October 1-31. BPHE received several comments which are summarized below. Full comments are always available for review under the “Forum” section.

Summary of Feedback:

The Broomfield Public Health and Environment (BPHE) recently solicited feedback on the retail food establishment inspection process to ensure continuous improvement and transparency. The responses received provide valuable insight into the effectiveness and efficiency of our health inspection program.

  1. Program Strengths: Feedback was largely positive regarding the quality of inspector interactions. Health inspectors were commended for being knowledgeable, professional and educational. Operators appreciate the thorough guidance and helpful tips provided, which aids compliance and public safety.
  2. Area for Improvement: One of the main concerns was the duration of inspections for mobile food establishments. Feedback indicates that the time spent on some mobile unit inspections is perceived as being long, leading to concerns about operational disruptions.
    1. Note on inspection time: The time required for an inspection is dynamic; it has no fixed minimum or maximum. The focus remains on mitigating foodborne illness risk factors, meaning duration will vary based on the facility's type, complexity and specific observations made during the visit.
  3. Transparency: All Retail Food Establishment inspection reports are public record and can be viewed online at: https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/broomfield.

Participants who entered a valid email address were entered to win gift cards and have been contacted if they were randomly selected! Thank you for participating in this year’s Food Forum. BPHE always welcomes feedback via email at publichealth@broomfield.org or by phone at 720-887-2220.
