Promote the Arts

  • Review opportunities to emphasize the arts in economic development, including in Economic Vitality Strategic Plan
    • Approved contract for Economic Vitality Strategic Plan includes work to develop an economic vitality framework for focus areas including arts and culture.
      • Update to Economic Vitality Strategic Plan will explicitly address the arts in economic development
  • Review existing and planned facilities for the arts in Broomfield, identify future gaps
    • Library and Cultural Affairs Strategic Plan under development. Draft expected in May. Will identify community “wants” with facilities assessment to follow
    • Draft is circulating among staff.
    • An RFP will be issued in October for consultant groups to prepare a facilities plan.
      • Library & Cultural Affairs staff are meeting August 23rd to prioritize community feedback and identify immediate goals and action steps.
      • Library & CIP staff will be attending a design institute September 13th to gain ideas.
  • Identify methods to promote the arts in Broomfield
    • Staff is re-evaluating current allocated staffing - shifting more hours to the Cultural Affairs division AND enhancing collaboration opportunities to increase promotion and visibility of the Arts within current staffing and funding.
    • Council members and staff attended Colorado Creative Industries Summit to gain information on strategies and opportunities to enhance the creative industries in Broomfield.
    • Attendees continue to meet to develop plans for follow-up.
    • FTE in Library and Cultural Affairs Department is being re-purposed to an Arts Supervisor position. Recruitment is underway.
      • Library and Cultural Affairs Strategic Plan is being finalized and space assessment to begin soon.
      • Recruitment for Deputy Director is underway and emphasizing a skill set to help move Arts initiatives forward alongside new Arts Supervisor.
      • BLA group is working together with Cultural Affairs staff and Public Art Committee to identify locations for murals.

    • On-going
